Download this file: 2-white-balance.zip

  1. from the "White-Balance" sub-folder > Open the image file "1-white-balance.psd" image
  2. Use the Threshold Adjustment Layer: Set the White and Black points by using the Eyedropper Tool ⌘i and Shift Click (this will add a Target).
  3. Turn OFF visibility on the Threshold Adjustment Layer
  4. Use Curve Adjustment Layer. Set the White and Black points in your image: Use the Black Eyedropper from the Curves Panel and then click the Target in the dark area of your image. Repeat for the White Eyedropper from the Curves Panel and then click on the Target in the light area of your image.
  5. Save the images. ⌘s
  6. Repeat step 1-5 for the image "2-white-balance.psd"
  7. Open the image "3-white-balance.psd". Continue the same steps as above.
  8. Use the Threshold Adjustment Layer: Set the White and Black points by using the Eyedropper Tool ⌘i and Shift Click (this will add a Target).
  9. Turn OFF visibility on the Threshold Adjustment Layer
  10. *This is Different - Apply a Curve Adjustment Layer. Double-Click the White Eyedropper. Select a new light color. This can be light pink, or light blue, or light purple. Click the Target in your image for the "light" pixel area. Double-Click the Black Eyedropper. Choose a dark color. Click the Target in your image for the "dark" pixel area.
  11. Save the images. ⌘s

How to Select and Save Colors

  1. Open the swatch image. Use your color sample tool ⌘i
    In the Option Bar, set the Sample Size drop-down to 11x11
    Sample and then save the color swatch in the Swatch Panel and Name the swatch to match the color name you are sampling.
    Select a light, medium, and dark color.
    Do not use White or Black as your selection.
  2. Open the first "product" image. Make sure you can see all layers. Open the Group for Selection and turn the visibility OFF on the Group.

How to Create Product Colors

  1. Click on the Background layer (the bottom layer).
    Load the "color chip" selection (⌘ click the mask of the square shape).
    Create a new solid or color fill layer (from the Adjustment Layer list).
    When selecting the color to use, click on your saved swatch (if it isn't the foreground color).
  2. Click the Background layer.
    Load the "garment" (⌘ click the mask of the garment shape).
    Create a new Solid Color or Color Fill layer. (Your color should already be selected).
    Change the blendmode to Color for this layer only.
  3. Click the Background layer.
    Load the "garment" (⌘ click the mask of the garment shape).
    Choose Levels Adjustment Layer. Adjust only the output Light or Dark slider to control the lightness or the darkness of the color. (This is actually adjusting the appearance of the original garment color/tone so that it matches the lightness / darkness of your target color).
  4. Select these 3 new Layers: Click the Chip layer, Hold Shift and click the Levels layer. All 3 layers should now be selected. Click the Group icon (folder icon in the layers panel).
    Rename the Group as the color of your swatch.
    REPEAT these steps for each saved color.
    REPEAT for the next image.
