e3 / Aperture or Depth of Field:
Shoot for a controlled depth of field
Aperture Chart
Light Meter Dials
Select a frame that has a subject in the foreground and a subject in the background.
Your task is:
Keep your exposure at EV 0.
Place an object or subject in your frame that has space between it and a background object. (The background can be anything. There just must be something there and not open space).
1. Shoot for a SHALLOW DOF (or small depth of field)
Use a wide aperture or low f-stop. Example is f 4 or lower (or as low as your lens will allow).
Use a greater focal length or telephoto lens. If using a zoom lens, zoom out to 55mm or 85mm. (focal length info link)
Get close to your subject.
2. Shoot for a DEEP DOF (or large depth of field)
Your aperture should be smaller or a larger f-stop. Example: f11 or f16 (find the highest f-stop and back off by 1 stop).
You can experiment with a wide lens. If using a zoom, zoom in to 18mm or 35mm
You can also move back from the subject.
Repeat this for 1 more framed subject.
You are Not required to Bracket.
