a4 / Thematic Series:

You are to shoot a thematic series in response to Robert Frank's "The Americans"

image

Swiss born Robert Frank may have created his series as an outsider and as a subjective look at the nuances of an American culture, your view of YOUR culture and where you live might come from an insider's view. If you live on either side of the border you may choose to document that split life-style and culture.

It is also no accident that this assignment should be shot over the 4th of July weekend. Please explore this national holiday and the interesting rituals that accompany it.

You may also want to juxtapose these images with your own sense of what it means to be an "American".

The following questions may be useful in exploring the theme of identity and origin:

For this series you should shoot a minimum of 30 images.

You will select 6 final images that are meant to be viewed together as a group or in sequence.

Every final image MUST be taken through the digital editing & print workflow.

Contact Sheet: this time, create a contact sheet with 4 columns and 4 rows. This will give you more .tif files, but the images will be larger for the class to view during critique.

What to turn in to the dropbox:

lastname_a4-contactsheet-1.tif , lastname_a4-contactsheet-2.tif (and so on)
lastname_a4-1.tif
lastname_a4-2.tif
lastname_a4-3.tif
lastname_a4-4.tif
lastname_a4-5.tif
lastname_a4-6.tif
