Assignment 1 - MoPA Museum Visit / Balboa Park

Wednesday June 17th

Schedule:

8:30am - Meet at the Fountain (by Park Blvd)
Role will be taken
Class will explore the park on their own - taking images for Assignment 1

10:00am - Meet back in front of the MoPA. Enter museum. (*Look at "writing component" for this)
The museum is "pay what you like" - I recommend paying something. The museum is worth it! Normally, the cost for a group like ours would be $6 a person.

11:30am - Meet back in front of the MoPA for final role before leaving. (You of course can remain at the park after our class. There are restaurants and other museums to check out if you feel like making a day of it).

You will need to take notes. Please bring paper and a pencil. Do not use pens in the gallery. There are pencils and clip boards available if you forget to bring your own.
Silence your phones.
Speak at a lowered volume.
You can take photos (unless stated otherwise). Do not use Flash.
Do not bring your tripods into the museum. Leave them in your car or check them at the museum desk.

Compositionally, please consider these in your images:
Centered
Rule of Thirds
Vanishing Point

Writing Component:

You will choose 1 photograph to write about.

First, write what you copied down from the information plaque next to the photograph (artist, title, date, media, etc)

In the First Paragraph:
Describe the composition (using some of the same terms that we learned in the 1st exercise).
Is this photograph color or black and white?

Second Paragraph:
What message or meaning is being conveyed through the photo? (There might be information about this on the wall, if there is not, please interpret on your own or "infer").

Third Paragraph:
Please provide more information about the photographer. There might be information in the museum, or you might need to do a bit of research (in the library or online) for this section.
